The Città AltaBergamo's upper town is walled, Venetian, and reached by funicular or a steep road. Cars stop at Porta Sant'Agostino.

Lake Iseo and the FranciacortaForty kilometres east: the smallest of the big lakes, and the sparkling wine region beside it. Much quieter than Como.

L'aéroport

Orio al Serio is five kilometres from Bergamo and fifty from Milan, which is why it is signposted as Milan Bergamo. It is one of Europe's busiest low-cost airports and the arrivals hall shows it.

Five kilometres to Bergamo, twelve minutes. Fifty-two to Milan, close to an hour.
The Città Alta is above the modern town and cars are restricted inside the walls.
Buses to Milan Centrale run every twenty minutes and take an hour.
