The journey

Via Tulln and the S5 to Krems, then along the Danube on the B3 into the Wachau. Dürnstein's town centre is car-free, with paid car parks outside it; hotels and guest houses give overnight guests a free parking ticket, and the driver will drop you at the edge of the centre.

Arriving at Vienna Airport

Vienna Airport is at Schwechat, in Lower Austria, south-east of the city, with its own exit on the A4 motorway. There are four terminal buildings (1, 1A, 2 and 3), but whichever one your flight uses, all arriving passengers come out into the same central arrivals hall in Terminal 3. Your driver waits there with your name.

• Terminals 1, 1A, 2 and 3 matter for departures, not arrivals: everyone ends up in the one arrivals hall in Terminal 3, so there is only one place to meet.
• The A4 into Vienna, the 'Flughafenautobahn', ends at the Prater junction on the east side of the city, and from there it is city streets. The price is fixed, so rush-hour traffic changes the time, not what you pay.
• Building work continues on the Terminal 3 southern extension, due to finish in 2027, so follow the signs rather than older maps of the terminal.

How long it really takes

Maps says 75 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.

Realistically, 105 to 150 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.

When to book

Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.

Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.

How long does it take to get from Vienna Airport to Dürnstein?

About 75 minutes for the 107.7 km, outside peak traffic. Your driver knows the route and follows the flight, so a delayed landing moves the pick-up rather than costing you the transfer.

How much is a transfer from Vienna Airport to Dürnstein?

How much luggage can I take?

One suitcase and one piece of hand luggage per passenger is included. Skis or a snowboard, a golf bag, a surfboard or a bicycle: add them when you book, so a vehicle with room for them is sent (there is a small charge, shown before you pay). An unusual number of ordinary bags: tell us in the notes.

Can I get a child seat?

Yes. Choose it when you book: infant seat (0–12 months), child seat (1–4 years) or booster seat (4–12 years). There is a small charge per seat, shown before you pay. Where the law requires a child seat, travelling without one is not possible.

Who will drive me?

A licensed local transport company that works with Airportlink. We check its operating licence and insurance before it can take bookings, and again when they expire. The day before, you receive the driver's name, phone number and vehicle.

Can I book the return from Dürnstein to the airport?

Yes. Add the return when you book, or book it on its own later, also at a fixed price. For pick-ups away from the airport the driver waits 15 minutes free from the booked time.

When do I pay?

When you book, or — on many transfers — later: you book without paying, your card is stored securely with Stripe and charged 48 hours before pick-up. You are told the exact amount and date when you book.
