The journey
Ipanema stretches from Arpoador at Posto 7 to the Jardim de Alah canal at Posto 10, where Leblon begins, with Avenida Vieira Souto on the beach. Tell the driver which end you are at — the quiet Posto 10 end and the Arpoador end are a long walk apart.
Arriving at Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont Airport
Santos Dumont is Rio's city-centre airport, built on land reclaimed from Guanabara Bay next to the Centro financial district, with Sugarloaf on the approach. It handles domestic flights; the original 1945 building now serves arrivals only, and departures use the terminal opened in 2007.
- Santos Dumont is closed to flights from 23:00 to 06:00 — if you are flying late at night, check whether your flight uses Galeão instead.
- On Sundays the roads through Flamengo Park close to cars, which changes the usual route to Botafogo and Copacabana.
How long it really takes
Maps says 30 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 60 to 105 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
When to book

Can I get a child seat?
Tell us in the booking notes, with the child's age, and we pass it to the driver. Where the law requires a child seat, travelling without one is not possible.
Who will drive me?
A licensed local transport company that works with Airportlink. We check its operating licence and insurance before it can take bookings, and again when they expire. The day before, you receive the driver's name, phone number and vehicle.
Can I book the return from Ipanema to the airport?
Yes. Add the return when you book, or book it on its own later, also at a fixed price. For pick-ups away from the airport the driver waits 15 minutes free from the booked time.
When do I pay?
When you book, or — on many transfers — later: you book without paying, your card is stored securely with Stripe and charged 48 hours before pick-up. You are told the exact amount and date when you book.
