Explora Atacama stands on the plain of the Ayllu de Larache, once home to an Atacameño community, a few minutes' walk from the village of San Pedro.

Arriving at Calama Airport

El Loa Airport serves Calama, the capital of El Loa Province, an oasis on the Loa River in the Atacama Desert. It is the airport for San Pedro de Atacama. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall, with your name.

• San Pedro de Atacama is at about 2,400 m. Mild altitude sickness can occur, so drink water and take the first day slowly.
• In San Pedro, give the exact name of your lodge or hotel, as many are outside the village centre.

How long it really takes

Maps says 77 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.

Realistically, 107 to 152 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.

When to book

How much luggage can I take?

One suitcase and one piece of hand luggage per passenger is included. Skis or a snowboard, a golf bag, a surfboard or a bicycle: add them when you book, so a vehicle with room for them is sent (there is a small charge, shown before you pay). An unusual number of ordinary bags: tell us in the notes.

Can I get a child seat?

Yes. Choose it when you book: infant seat (0–12 months), child seat (1–4 years) or booster seat (4–12 years). There is a small charge per seat, shown before you pay. Where the law requires a child seat, travelling without one is not possible.

Who will drive me?

A licensed local transport company that works with Airportlink. We check its operating licence and insurance before it can take bookings, and again when they expire. The day before, you receive the driver's name, phone number and vehicle.
