The journey
A hundred and twenty kilometres south-east to the Adriatic, an hour and a half. Rimini is fifteen kilometres of beach and the gateway to San Marino. In August the coast road slows considerably — the motorway is the better run.
Arriving at Bologna Airport
Marconi is six kilometres from the centre, connected by an elevated monorail that opened in 2020. Bologna is also the junction of Italy's rail network, which makes the airport a common arrival point for people going somewhere else entirely.
- The Marconi Express monorail runs to the central station in seven minutes, every seven minutes, for €11.
- Bologna Centrale is the crossroads of Italian rail. Florence is thirty-five minutes, Milan an hour, Venice ninety minutes.
- The centre has forty kilometres of covered arcades. It rains in Emilia and nobody carries an umbrella.
