The journey

South on the S7 expressway as far as Rabka-Zdrój, then the old Zakopianka road (DK47) into the Tatras. The last section is the bottleneck, and in peak season and holiday weekends it can turn into one long queue. Give the driver your guesthouse address.

Arriving at Kraków Airport

Kraków Airport is at Balice, west of the city, close to the A4 motorway. There is one passenger terminal, opened in its current form in the mid-2010s, handling both domestic and international flights; arrivals and baggage reclaim are on the ground floor. The train station, car park and hotel are linked to the terminal by a covered walkway. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name.

• The airport is exposed to fog, especially in autumn and winter, and flights are sometimes diverted to Katowice, Rzeszów or even Warsaw. If yours is diverted, tell us and we will move the pick-up rather than leave a driver waiting at Balice.
• Most of the Old Town inside the Planty ring and the heart of Kazimierz are restricted traffic zones. Give the driver the hotel name so they can get you to the closest point a car is allowed.
• Auschwitz-Birkenau entry is by booked time slot only, made in advance online — tickets are not issued on site, so book your slot before you book the transfer.

How long it really takes

Maps says 105 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.

Realistically, 135 to 180 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.

When to book

Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.

Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.

How long does it take to get from Kraków Airport to Zakopane?

About 105 minutes for the 114.4 km, outside peak traffic. Your driver knows the route and follows the flight, so a delayed landing moves the pick-up rather than costing you the transfer.

How much is a transfer from Kraków Airport to Zakopane?

How much luggage can I take?

One suitcase and one piece of hand luggage per passenger is included. Skis or a snowboard, a golf bag, a surfboard or a bicycle: add them when you book, so a vehicle with room for them is sent (there is a small charge, shown before you pay). An unusual number of ordinary bags: tell us in the notes.

Can I get a child seat?

Yes. Choose it when you book: infant seat (0–12 months), child seat (1–4 years) or booster seat (4–12 years). There is a small charge per seat, shown before you pay. Where the law requires a child seat, travelling without one is not possible.

Who will drive me?

A licensed local transport company that works with Airportlink. We check its operating licence and insurance before it can take bookings, and again when they expire. The day before, you receive the driver's name, phone number and vehicle.

Can I book the return from Zakopane to the airport?

Yes. Add the return when you book, or book it on its own later, also at a fixed price. For pick-ups away from the airport the driver waits 15 minutes free from the booked time.

When do I pay?

When you book, or — on many transfers — later: you book without paying, your card is stored securely with Stripe and charged 48 hours before pick-up. You are told the exact amount and date when you book.
