The journey

The road runs south over the mountains to Konjic, then down the Neretva valley past Jablanica to Mostar — a scenic drive, but a winding one rather than motorway. Give the driver the hotel name rather than just 'the Old Bridge', as many hotels are on the streets around it.

Arriving at Sarajevo Airport

Sarajevo International Airport is in Butmir, a suburb in the Ilidža municipality on the south-western edge of the city, with Baščaršija and the old town at the far end of the valley. There is a single terminal building, with separate main entrances for departures and arrivals. Arrivals has its own zone at the front of the building, so there is only one place to come out. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name.

• Fog is the airport's main operating problem, mostly in winter, and it can cancel or hold flights for hours. Your flight is tracked; if it is rerouted or moved to another day, tell us and we move the pick-up.
• Baščaršija is a set of pedestrian streets that cars cannot enter. If your guesthouse is inside it, give the driver its name so he can stop at the nearest point a car can reach.
• In winter the roads up to Jahorina and Bjelašnica are mountain roads; after snowfall chains are sometimes required, so allow extra time on a ski transfer.

How long it really takes

Maps says 122 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.

Realistically, 152 to 197 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.

When to book

Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.

Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.

How long does it take to get from Sarajevo Airport to Mostar?

About 122 minutes for the 123.3 km, outside peak traffic. Your driver knows the route and follows the flight, so a delayed landing moves the pick-up rather than costing you the transfer.

How much luggage can I take?

One suitcase and one piece of hand luggage per passenger is included. Skis or a snowboard, a golf bag, a surfboard or a bicycle: add them when you book, so a vehicle with room for them is sent (there is a small charge, shown before you pay). An unusual number of ordinary bags: tell us in the notes.

Can I get a child seat?

Yes. Choose it when you book: infant seat (0–12 months), child seat (1–4 years) or booster seat (4–12 years). There is a small charge per seat, shown before you pay. Where the law requires a child seat, travelling without one is not possible.

Who will drive me?

A licensed local transport company that works with Airportlink. We check its operating licence and insurance before it can take bookings, and again when they expire. The day before, you receive the driver's name, phone number and vehicle.

Can I book the return from Mostar to the airport?

Yes. Add the return when you book, or book it on its own later, also at a fixed price. For pick-ups away from the airport the driver waits 15 minutes free from the booked time.

When do I pay?

When you book, or — on many transfers — later: you book without paying, your card is stored securely with Stripe and charged 48 hours before pick-up. You are told the exact amount and date when you book.
