The journey

Taíba is a former fishing village in São Gonçalo do Amarante, reached on the CE-085. Its flat-water lagoon draws kitesurfers, and the Pecém port complex is nearby.

Arriving at Fortaleza Airport

Fortaleza's airport is run by Fraport Brasil and sits in the Serrinha district, south of downtown, so the beachfront hotels of Meireles and Iracema are a short city drive away. There is a single passenger terminal, and domestic and international arrivals share the same baggage hall. Many passengers are heading straight out of town: the east coast is reached on the CE-040 and the west coast on the CE-085.

• Ignore car-rental touts who approach you in the terminal; they are not accredited by the airport operator. Your driver waits with your name in the arrivals hall.
• The wind season that draws kitesurfers to Cumbuco and Taíba runs roughly from July to January, so expect beach hotels to be busier then.

How long it really takes

Maps says 87 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.

Realistically, 117 to 162 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.

When to book

Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.

Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.

How much luggage can I take?

One suitcase and one piece of hand luggage per passenger is included. Skis, golf clubs, bicycles or an unusual number of bags: tell us in the notes when you book, so a vehicle with room for them is sent.

Can I get a child seat?

Tell us in the booking notes, with the child's age, and we pass it to the driver. Where the law requires a child seat, travelling without one is not possible.

Who will drive me?

A licensed local transport company that works with Airportlink. We check its operating licence and insurance before it can take bookings, and again when they expire. The day before, you receive the driver's name, phone number and vehicle.

Can I book the return from Taíba to the airport?

Yes. Add the return when you book, or book it on its own later, also at a fixed price. For pick-ups away from the airport the driver waits 15 minutes free from the booked time.

When do I pay?

When you book, or — on many transfers — later: you book without paying, your card is stored securely with Stripe and charged 48 hours before pick-up. You are told the exact amount and date when you book.
