Before you land
The airport
Fortaleza's airport is run by Fraport Brasil and sits in the Serrinha district, south of downtown, so the beachfront hotels of Meireles and Iracema are a short city drive away. There is a single passenger terminal, and domestic and international arrivals share the same baggage hall. Many passengers are heading straight out of town: the east coast is reached on the CE-040 and the west coast on the CE-085.
- Ignore car-rental touts who approach you in the terminal; they are not accredited by the airport operator. Your driver waits with your name in the arrivals hall.
- The wind season that draws kitesurfers to Cumbuco and Taíba runs roughly from July to January, so expect beach hotels to be busier then.
