The journey
Eleven kilometres, but twenty-five minutes — the road climbs sharply and turns constantly. Fiesole looks down on Florence from three hundred metres up, and the view at sunset is the reason most people go.
Arriving at Florence Airport
Peretola is six kilometres from the Duomo, which makes it one of the closest city airports in Italy. It is also small, with a single runway that closes in strong crosswinds — diversions to Pisa or Bologna happen a few times a year.
- Six kilometres to the centre. Fifteen minutes, twenty-five if the Viale is busy.
- The tram line T2 runs to Santa Maria Novella in twenty minutes for €1.50. It works well if you travel light.
- In fog or high wind the airport diverts to Pisa. If that happens, tell us — we move the pick-up rather than charge you twice.
How long it really takes
Maps says 25 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 55 to 100 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
