Arriving at Genoa Airport
Cristoforo Colombo is built on reclaimed land in the harbour, seven kilometres from the centre. Genoa is squeezed between mountains and sea, and the roads reflect it — tunnels, viaducts and very little flat ground.

- Portofino is forty kilometres east and the last stretch is narrow.
- The old town is the largest medieval centre in Europe and most of it is too narrow for cars.
