The journey
Eighty-five kilometres east along the coast, an hour and ten. The route bypasses Palermo entirely, which saves an hour against going in and out. The old town is closed to traffic and the drop-off is at the edge of it.
Arriving at Palermo Airport
Punta Raisi sits on a strip of land between the mountains and the sea, thirty-five kilometres west of Palermo. The approach is spectacular and the drive in follows the coast most of the way.
- Thirty-five kilometres to the city, about forty minutes on the A29.
- The Trinacria Express train runs to Palermo Centrale in an hour, but only once or twice an hour.
- For Cefalù or the west coast, going straight from the airport saves doubling back through the city.

Maps says 70 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
