The journey
The centre is fifteen to twenty-five minutes away depending on traffic on the Segunda Circular. If you are staying in Alfama or Bairro Alto, give the driver the exact street: many are too narrow for a car and they will know the closest point to drop you.
Arriving at Lisbon Airport
Lisbon Airport sits inside the city, seven kilometres from the centre, which is unusual for a European capital. Arrivals is on the ground floor of Terminal 1; Terminal 2 handles low-cost departures only, so you will almost certainly land at T1. The meeting point is the arrivals hall after customs — your driver waits there with your name.
- Passport control can take 40 minutes in summer at peak arrival times. Your driver tracks the flight and waits.
- Terminal 2 has no arrivals. If you booked a pick-up there, it is wrong — tell us and we move it.
How long it really takes
Maps says 20 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 50 to 95 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
When to book
Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.
Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.
