The journey

The old town is on its own island in the middle of Stockholm, with narrow lanes. The driver will drop you at the nearest point a car can reach, so give the exact hotel address.

Arriving at Stockholm Arlanda Airport

Arlanda is north of Stockholm, in Sigtuna Municipality, off the E4 motorway between the capital and Uppsala. Passenger flights use Terminals 2, 4 and 5, but you come out into the arrivals hall of either Terminal 2 or Terminal 5: passengers landing at Terminal 4 walk through to Terminal 5 for baggage and customs. Only drivers with a pre-booked car are allowed into the arrivals halls to meet passengers, so look for your name as you come out. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal where you exit.

• Check which terminal your flight arrives at. Flights at Terminal 4 exit through Terminal 5, and the small regional flights from the Terminal 3 gates exit through Terminal 2. The driver waits in the arrivals hall where you come out.
• Inside the terminals, only pre-booked drivers are allowed to meet passengers. Anyone else offering you a ride inside the building is not working with the airport.
• Arlanda Express trains stop at Arlanda South (Terminals 2 and 4) and Arlanda North (Terminal 5), and other trains use Arlanda Central under SkyCity, so the arrivals halls are busy with people heading for the trains.

How long it really takes

Maps says 45 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.

Realistically, 75 to 120 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.

When to book

Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.

Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.

How long does it take to get from Arlanda Airport to Gamla stan (Old Town)?

About 45 minutes for the 46.6 km, outside peak traffic. Your driver knows the route and follows the flight, so a delayed landing moves the pick-up rather than costing you the transfer.

How much is a transfer from Arlanda Airport to Gamla stan (Old Town)?

What happens if my flight is late?

Where do I meet the driver at Arlanda Airport?

Private. The vehicle is for your group only: no other passengers and no other stops on the way to Gamla stan (Old Town).

Which car will I get?

It depends on the size of your group. These are examples: we do not guarantee a particular make or model, but we do guarantee enough seats and enough space for normal luggage.

How much luggage can I take?

One suitcase and one piece of hand luggage per passenger is included. Skis or a snowboard, a golf bag, a surfboard or a bicycle: add them when you book, so a vehicle with room for them is sent (there is a small charge, shown before you pay). An unusual number of ordinary bags: tell us in the notes.

Can I get a child seat?

Yes. Choose it when you book: infant seat (0–12 months), child seat (1–4 years) or booster seat (4–12 years). There is a small charge per seat, shown before you pay. Where the law requires a child seat, travelling without one is not possible.

Who will drive me?

A licensed local transport company that works with Airportlink. We check its operating licence and insurance before it can take bookings, and again when they expire. The day before, you receive the driver's name, phone number and vehicle.

Can I book the return from Gamla stan (Old Town) to the airport?

Yes. Add the return when you book, or book it on its own later, also at a fixed price. For pick-ups away from the airport the driver waits 15 minutes free from the booked time.

When do I pay?

When you book, or — on many transfers — later: you book without paying, your card is stored securely with Stripe and charged 48 hours before pick-up. You are told the exact amount and date when you book.
