The journey
Fifteen to twenty-five minutes, longer at school run times. The city centre sits on an island between two channels of the River Lee, which is why the streets curve and half of them are one-way. Most hotels are within a few minutes of St Patrick's Street.
Arriving at Cork Airport
Cork Airport is seven kilometres south of the city, on high ground that catches the fog rolling in from the coast. It is a single terminal and a small one — you are outside within ten minutes of the plane doors opening, which makes it one of the easier arrivals in Ireland. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with your name.
- Fog diverts flights here more than anywhere else in Ireland, usually to Shannon or Dublin. If yours is diverted, tell us — we move the pick-up rather than leave a driver waiting.
- The airport is small enough that there is one arrivals hall and no confusion about where to meet.
- Cork city centre is on an island between two channels of the River Lee, and half the streets are one-way. Give the driver the hotel name rather than the street.
How long it really takes
Maps says 20 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 50 to 95 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
When to book
Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.
Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.
