The journey
Sixty-three kilometres around the bay, an hour and ten. The last twenty kilometres are the slow part — the coast road is narrow and busy from June to September. Sorrento is also the ferry port for Capri.
Arriving at Naples Airport
Capodichino sits inside the city, six kilometres from the port. That is unusual and convenient, but it also means the road out is city traffic from the first metre — twelve kilometres to the centre can take forty minutes.
- The airport is in the city, not outside it. There is no motorway stretch to make up time.
- For the Amalfi Coast, the road narrows past Sorrento and buses cannot pass each other in places. Allow more time than a map suggests.
- The Alibus to the port and Piazza Garibaldi costs €5 and takes twenty-five minutes.
How long it really takes
Maps says 70 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 100 to 145 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
When to book
