Before you land

City traffic from the gateCapodichino has no ring road. Every journey starts in Naples traffic, which is dense and improvisational. Our price is fixed; the taxi meter is not, and the difference shows on a bad day.

The Amalfi Coast roadBeautiful, and slow. The stretch from Sorrento to Positano is single-lane in places with buses coming the other way. Ninety minutes is realistic for a journey a map calls sixty.

Pompeii and HerculaneumPompeii is twenty-eight kilometres, Herculaneum fifteen. Both are on the Circumvesuviana line, which is cheap and often unpleasant with luggage. For a family, the car wins.

The airport

Capodichino sits inside the city, six kilometres from the port. That is unusual and convenient, but it also means the road out is city traffic from the first metre — twelve kilometres to the centre can take forty minutes.

The airport is in the city, not outside it. There is no motorway stretch to make up time.
For the Amalfi Coast, the road narrows past Sorrento and buses cannot pass each other in places. Allow more time than a map suggests.
The Alibus to the port and Piazza Garibaldi costs €5 and takes twenty-five minutes.
