Before you land

Closer to the tower than most hotelsThree kilometres. You can walk it in forty minutes, and people do. With luggage, twelve minutes in a car.

The low-cost gateway to FlorenceMany people fly into Pisa for Florence because the fares are lower. Eighty-five kilometres, an hour on the FI-PI-LI. The train takes the same time and costs less; the car wins with bags or after the last service.

Cinque Terre without a carThe villages are closed to non-resident traffic. The transfer goes to La Spezia or Levanto, and the local train does the rest — five stops, ten minutes between each.

The airport

Pisa's airport is three kilometres from the leaning tower, which makes it one of the closest in Europe. It is also the practical gateway to Florence for anyone flying low-cost, and to the Cinque Terre up the coast.
