Before you land
It is not the Milan airport people expectFifty kilometres and fifty minutes on a clear road. Linate is the one eight kilometres from the centre. If your meeting is at nine and you land at eight at Malpensa, the arithmetic does not work — plan for it.
The lakes are closer than the cityComo is fifty kilometres, Stresa on Lake Maggiore is forty. If the lakes are why you are coming, Malpensa is the right airport and the transfer is shorter than the one into Milan.

The airport
Malpensa is fifty kilometres north-west of Milan, which surprises people who booked it thinking it was the city airport. Terminal 1 takes long-haul and most international flights; Terminal 2 is low-cost, and the two are four kilometres apart.
- Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are linked by a free shuttle every seven minutes. It takes ten minutes, and you need it if you land at the wrong one.
- The Malpensa Express runs to Cadorna and Centrale. Cadorna is closer to the Duomo; Centrale is where the high-speed trains leave from.
- There is no fixed taxi fare from Malpensa. The meter runs, and €90 to €110 into the centre is normal.
