Before you land

Closer than Fiumicino, not always fasterFifteen kilometres against thirty, but the Via Appia Nuova and the Tuscolana both run through built-up areas with traffic lights. At rush hour a Ciampino transfer can take as long as one from Fiumicino.

The Castelli Romani are on the doorstepFrascati, Castel Gandolfo and Albano are all within twenty kilometres. If you are heading to the hills rather than the city, Ciampino is much the better arrival airport.

Late arrivalsLow-cost schedules put a lot of flights in after 23:00. The last bus to Termini goes at 00:15 and the taxi queue at that hour is long. A booked transfer waits regardless of when you land.

The airport

Ciampino is small, close and almost entirely low-cost. One terminal, one arrivals hall, and you are outside within ten minutes of landing. It is fifteen kilometres from the centre, but the road in is slower than the distance suggests.
