Before you land

Called Milan, but it is BergamoFifty-two kilometres to Milan and an hour on a good day. If your meeting is in Milan and you land here, plan for it — a lot of people do not.

The Città AltaBergamo's upper town is walled, Venetian, and reached by funicular or a steep road. Cars stop at Porta Sant'Agostino.

Lake Iseo and the FranciacortaForty kilometres east: the smallest of the big lakes, and the sparkling wine region beside it. Much quieter than Como.

The airport

Orio al Serio is five kilometres from Bergamo and fifty from Milan, which is why it is signposted as Milan Bergamo. It is one of Europe's busiest low-cost airports and the arrivals hall shows it.
