What is included

The journey

Just under an hour on the A22. If you are going to Praia da Rocha, that is the beach side of Portimão, five minutes further and where most of the hotels are.

Arriving at Faro Airport

Faro Airport serves the whole Algarve, and most passengers are not going to Faro itself. Everything west — Albufeira, Vilamoura, Lagos — is on the A22 motorway. Arrivals is a single hall and the meeting point is straight through customs.

How long it really takes

Maps says 55 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.

1
Taxi and disembark10–15 min
2
Passport controlNone inside Schengen. 15–45 min from outside it.
3
Baggage reclaim10–25 min with hold luggage
4
Finding your driver2–5 min. Your name on a sign.
5
The drive55 min

Realistically, 85 to 130 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.

When to book

Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.

A week aheadJuly, August, Fridays and Saturdays. The busiest arrivals of the year, and a long run like this one is the first to run out.
As soon as you have the flightGroups of five or more. Vans and minibuses go first, always.
Two or three daysLanding between 23:00 and 06:00. Fewer drivers are working.
The day before is fineEverything else. The same morning usually works too.

Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.

Before you land

One terminal, and the busiest Saturdays in PortugalPeak summer Saturdays at Faro are the busiest arrivals in the country. The terminal is single and simple, but the hall gets full. Your driver waits with your name at the arrivals exit.
The A22 is toll-free since January 2025The Via do Infante carries no tolls, which makes the whole Algarve quicker and cheaper to reach than it was. Any remaining road charge is inside your fixed price.
Portuguese TVDE and taxi licensingEvery driver holds a TVDE or taxi licence issued by IMT. We check the licence and the insurance before a company takes its first ride.
Most passengers are not going to FaroAlmost everything is west on the A22 — Albufeira, Vilamoura, Lagos. Resorts spread over several kilometres, so give the hotel name and not just the town. It is the single most common cause of a late arrival.

FAQ

How long does it take to get from Faro Airport to Portimão?

About 55 minutes for the 70 km, outside peak traffic. Your driver knows the route and follows the flight, so a delayed landing moves the pick-up rather than costing you the transfer.

How much is a transfer from Faro Airport to Portimão?

From €83 for up to four passengers, and €140 for a group of five to eight in a van. The price is fixed when you book — tolls and taxes included, nothing added at the end.

What happens if my flight is late?

We track the flight number you give us. The driver waits and adjusts to the actual landing time, with 60 minutes of free waiting after the plane touches down.

Where do I meet the driver at Faro Airport?

In the arrivals hall after you clear customs. The day before your trip we send you the driver's name, phone number and vehicle, and they contact you with the exact spot.

Can I cancel?

Free up to 24 hours before pick-up, refunded in full and automatically. On many routes you can also book without paying and we only charge the card 48 hours before you travel.
