The journey
The Douro quintas are ninety minutes east on the A4. The last stretch is narrow valley road and some quintas are down unpaved tracks — send us the exact location when you book, because several have the same name.
Arriving at Porto Airport
Porto Airport is 11 km north of the city in Maia. It is a small, easy airport — arrivals to car is usually under ten minutes. The meeting point is the arrivals hall, straight ahead as you leave baggage reclaim.
- Porto has almost no queue at passport control compared to Lisbon. Twenty minutes from landing to car is normal.
- The metro goes to the centre but takes 35 minutes with luggage and a change. With two or more people a transfer usually costs less than the fares.
How long it really takes
Maps says 90 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 120 to 165 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
