Before you land
One terminal, and a fast onePorto is small and efficient. Twenty minutes from landing to car is normal, against forty in Lisbon. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall, straight ahead from baggage reclaim.
No tolls on the way into PortoThe VCI into the city is toll-free. Going to Braga or the Douro means motorway tolls, and those are inside your fixed price.
Portuguese TVDE and taxi licensingEvery driver holds a TVDE or taxi licence issued by IMT. Licence and insurance are checked before a company takes its first ride.
The Ribeira is steeper than it looksIf your hotel is down by the river, the last streets are narrow and often pedestrian. The driver gets as close as the car allows, usually a two-minute walk.
The airport
Porto Airport is 11 km north of the city in Maia. It is a small, easy airport — arrivals to car is usually under ten minutes. The meeting point is the arrivals hall, straight ahead as you leave baggage reclaim.
- Porto has almost no queue at passport control compared to Lisbon. Twenty minutes from landing to car is normal.
- The metro goes to the centre but takes 35 minutes with luggage and a change. With two or more people a transfer usually costs less than the fares.
