The journey
Forty-five minutes west, faster on the AP-7 in summer. Marbella runs for more than twenty kilometres of coast, from Puerto Banús to the eastern urbanisations — the town name alone is not enough, so give the urbanisation.
Arriving at Málaga Airport
Málaga is the gateway to the Costa del Sol, and most arrivals are not going to Málaga itself. Everything west — Torremolinos, Fuengirola, Marbella — runs along the A-7 and the AP-7 toll road. The terminal is single and modern, with arrivals on one level.

How long it really takes
Maps says 45 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 75 to 120 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
When to book
Booking early costs the same as booking late — the price does not move. What moves is whether there is a car left.
Cancellation is free until 24 hours before, so booking early costs you nothing if the plan changes.
