The journey
Just over an hour north-west, mostly on the M40. Oxford's centre is closed to through traffic and many colleges are on pedestrian streets, so a driver will drop you at the nearest legal point — usually a short walk. If you are going to a college rather than a hotel, give the college name: they are spread across the city.
Arriving at Heathrow Airport
Heathrow is the busiest airport in Europe and has four terminals spread over a large site, connected by free transfers that still take time. Terminals 2 and 3 sit together in the middle; Terminal 4 and Terminal 5 are several minutes away by train or road. The terminal is what decides where your driver meets you, so it matters more here than almost anywhere else.
- Give your terminal when you book. A driver waiting at Terminal 5 cannot reach Terminal 3 quickly, and the free inter-terminal train adds fifteen minutes.
- The M4 and M25 around Heathrow are slow between 07:00 and 09:30 and again from 16:00. A journey that takes forty minutes at noon can take ninety at six in the evening.
- Heathrow charges every vehicle that stops at the terminal a drop-off fee. It is included in our price, and it is worth checking whether a quote you compare includes it.

Maps says 66 minutes. That is the driving. Door to door from the moment you land is a different number, and it is the one worth planning around.
Realistically, 96 to 141 minutes after landing. If someone is waiting for you, that is the number to give them.
When to book
