Luton is a single terminal north of London, close to the M1 and to Milton Keynes and Bedford. It handles a lot of early-morning departures, and the airport itself is compact — but the last stretch, from the terminal to the town or the station, is where most of the friction is for people arriving by public transport.

Luton is fifty-two kilometres from central London — an hour, and more at rush hour. It is closer to Milton Keynes than to the West End.
The rail route means a shuttle from the terminal to the station before the train even starts. With luggage, it is the part people regret.
Departures here start very early. A car booked the night before removes the only step that can go wrong at four in the morning.
