Before you land

Two terminals, one shuttleThe shuttle between North and South runs constantly and takes about three minutes, but with luggage and a late flight it is one more thing to do. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal you actually land in.

The airport for the south coastBrighton, Eastbourne and the Sussex coast are all closer to Gatwick than to any other London airport. If you are heading south, this is the airport where a car to the door makes the most obvious sense — the rail journey often needs a change and ends at a station on a hill.

The airport

Gatwick has two terminals, North and South, joined by a free shuttle that runs every few minutes. It sits south of London near Crawley, which makes it the natural airport for Brighton and the south coast — and a longer drive into London than most visitors expect. The M23 into the M25 is the route, and both can be slow.

North or South terminal changes where your driver meets you. It is on your boarding pass, and it is worth telling us when you book.
Gatwick to central London is sixty-five kilometres, not the short hop the name suggests. Allow well over an hour at busy times.
For Brighton and the coast, Gatwick is the closer airport by a wide margin — forty minutes, against two hours from Heathrow.
